Batman: Return to Arkham for PS4 and XONE is a compilation of two remastered versions of action-adventure games from the Batman: Arkham series developed by Rocksteady. Both titles were popular among players and they received many critic awards. They also had great impact on the shape of other titles in the genre. The refreshed versions were created by Virtuos, a company which completed many similar projects, including the collection Heavy Rain for PlayStation 4.

The collection contains:

Batman: Arkham Asylum from 2009 is the first installment of the series. The action of the game takes place in Arkham mental facility where the most dangerous criminals of Gotham are locked. After capturing Joker, Batman transports him to his cell. However, once he arrives, it all proves to be part of criminal’s plan and Batman must face the villains in the facility (among them Victor Zsasz, Killer Croc, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy). The game introduced for the first time to the player a unique and very fluent melee combat system in which players are building long combos and use various gadgets.

If you had been stressing over getting rid of your older game system but had been holding on because of not having these games for the new system, your wait is over. This package is a must have for your gaming library. Batman Return to Arkham is for now the definitive collection that has Batman Arkham Asylum and Batman Arkham City…. and ALL of the DLC for both games.

Push Square: 7 / 10 by Sam Brooke

Batman: Return to Arkham isn't the greatest ever remaster, but the price offers excellent value and the gameplay of both Asylum and City still hold up. Couple two of the greatest superhero games of all time with their DLC, and you get a lot of bang for your buck here.

DualShockers: 6.5 / 10 by Tomas Franzese

While the underlying games hold up as well as they ever did, Batman: Return to Arkham as a remasterwas very disappointing — especially compared to others that masterfully retouch games like Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection or Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Of the two, only Arkham Ayslum’s remaster is worth playing through; with no additional content beyond both games’ previous DLC, I would only recommend Return to Arkham to either die-hard Batman fans or those who don’t have access to an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
