Release Date: September 30, 1998
The third installment of the popular series of sports games. Routes at Cool Boarders 3 have become much narrower than their predecessors, and races with opponents have become more . The number of playable characters and boards has also increased. Again, the game consists in overcoming the snow slopes as quickly or as efficiently as possible.
Cool Boarders 3, released on PS1, is the next installment of a series of snowboard games which started in 1996 with the release of PAIN.
Compared to its predecessors, the tracks in Cool Boarders 3 are much tighter, making races with opponents more challenging. To highlight this change, the developers added a button responsible for hitting other players.
The number of playable characters and snowboards has been significantly increased. Thirteen competitors are available at the beginning of the game, and eight more are waiting to be unlocked. The list of eleven boards to choose from can be extended by twelve more models. However, the number of tracks has decreased - in Cool Boarders 3, players can only slide down on six slopes, most of them look differently depending on the selected game mode.
Cool Boarders 3 on PS1 offers several game modes. Downhill is a traditional race with three other competitors. Boarder X is also focused on racing, but here you have to slide through the goals set on the track. Slalom allows you to face one opponent in the titular competition. Slope Style, Half Pipe, and Big Air are about scoring points by performing tricks. In addition, more advanced players can participate in a hidden Avalanche mode where the goal is to escape from an avalanche.
