Dead Island Retro Revenge is an oldschool side-scroll 2D beat 'em up game and a spin-off of the popular Dead Island: Riptide.
Plot
The story takes place in a zombie-infested world, already known from the core Dead Island games. You play as a typical musclehead named Max, who's trying to exact revenge on his cat's kidnappers. Max plough through the streets of California and faces multitudes of various foes, including the mindless undead, corrupt soldiers and degenerate ex-convicts.
Mechanics
Dead Island Retro Revenge is a classic side-scroll beat 'em up game, resembling such productions as Franko: The Crazy Revenge. During the game, you keep moving right, beating up everyone in your path. Apart from the hits, blows and strikes typical for the genre, you can also use complex combo attacks and collect power-ups, which activate powerful special abilities. There's more—there are weapons and other items you can find on your way and put to good use.
Technical aspects
Dead Island Retro Revenge for PC, PS4 and XONE features colourful, although very oldschool 2D visuals, resembling those of the classic 16-bit arcade games and computers. What's more, the game's screen is stylized to resemble that of a pixelated arcade game screen. The overall atmosphere is complemented by a fitting soundtrack.
