Mechanics

Death end re;Quest 2 is a classic representative of the jRPG genre. Observing the action from third-person perspective, we explore the town of Liz Soara, perform quests (both main and optional), talk to characters and gradually discover new fragments of the scenario prepared by the creators.

Compile Heart's game also includes combat. This aspect of the game was implemented with the use of the turn-based system. In battles we control a team of three characters - the order of attack depends on the speed stat of our heroes and opponents. In their turn the players can also move a given heroine, which enables them to place her outside the range of opponents or at a point where she can a companion. Each character can perform three actions in one round, and choosing the same action several times will enhance the effect (for example, choosing Guard three times will make the character extremely difficult to kill, but unable to attack).

Death end re;Quest 2 also includes the Knockback System, which enables us to knock enemies down and throw them away to inflict more damage. Additionally, in some situations (after filling in a special Contamination bar), the characters we direct in combat can take on a more powerful form, called Glitch Mode. While fighting, we must also pay attention to the environment - the levels may contain cursed places, causing various kinds of nagative effects.

As the game progresses, we also develop our characters - interestingly, the strongest abilities can be learned only through the Flash - a kind of enlightment, which can occur in specific situations during combat. In order to find the most powerful skills, the player has to experiment with combining different attacks.

Game modes

Death end re;Quest 2 can only be played solo. The mainstay of the game is the story campaign.

Technical aspects

Death end re;Quest 2 features pleasant graphics that combine a 3D game world and characters with two-dimensional, hand-drawn illustrations that are used to depict dialogues and storylines. The game has a fairly typical manga style visuals. The atmosphere and light effects accompanying combat are also worth mentioning.
