Drox Operative: Invasion of the Ancients is the first supplement to the action-RPG Drox Operative released in 2012. The extension, prepared by Soldak Entertainment's development team, introduces a new campaign in which the plot is based on the invasion of ancient races who want to regain control of the galaxy.
Drox Operative: Invasion of the Ancients is the first fully fledged addition to Drox Operative. Developers from Soldak Entertainment studio decided to introduce a new campaign and a few changes in the mechanics of the game.
The leitmotif of the plot of the supplement is the invasion of the title Ancient. It turns out that before the Drox Empire conquered the galaxy, it was ruled by ancient alien races. With the help of the Operative Caste, most enemies were crushed and enslaved, but some aliens managed to escape. Since then, the eons have ed and the events of the turbulent past have been forgotten. The war with the Operative destroyed the Drox empire and at the same time significantly weakened the legendary caste. This situation is being exploited by the Ancient people who invade the galaxy in order to regain their rule.
The extension allows the player to stand on the side of the castes of the Operative or the Ancient and take part in spectacular struggles in which control of the universe is at stake. The game is based on solutions previously used in Drox Operative, combining the features of action game, cRPG, arcade shooter and space simulator. However, the developers of the add-on tempted to make a few changes, including a new alien race - Scavengers, the ability to defend and destroy space stations, both military and production, as well as a number of new missions, maps, enemies and equipment elements.
From the technical side Drox Operative: Invasion of the Ancients does not contain any significant changes. Developers at Soldak Entertainment turned to a proven graphics engine that offers average quality graphics combining elements 2 and 3D.
