A spin-off of the popular Europa Universalis series, based on the engine and mechanics from the third installment, released in 2007. In contrast to every previous installment, Europa Universalis: Rome takes us to Antiquity, concentrating on the Roman Empire from 280 B.C. to 27 B.C. – from the First Punic War up to the birth of the grand Roman Empire.
Europa Universalis: Rome for PC is a spin-off of the popular strategy game series developed by Paradox Interactive. This time, the authors offer us the ability to travel to Antiquity, between the years 280 – 27 B.C. – from the First Punic War up to the beginnings of grandness of the Roman Empire. The character and the course of the gameplay haven’t practically changed in regards to the previous installments, i.e. we still lead a chosen faction, taking care of culture, religion, national treasury, military, technological growth, or diplomatic . Only the timeframe has changed.
During the gameplay, we are left with a three-dimensional world map divided into hundreds of provinces that make up countries and empires. Topographic details were also included, influencing not only the armies’ marching speed, but also, for example, trade. There are over 50 playable nations at our disposal, belonging to one of nine contemporary cultures, including Celtic, Greek, Egyptian, and Roman. Traditionally, each of these cultures was faithfully recreated by the developers, similarly to every dependency that played a part in the Antique world.
The outstanding personas have played key roles in Antique nations, so this is an important mechanic in Europa Universalis: Rome. The gameplay mainly focuses on single persons. If we care about their growth, they have an easier time dealing with entrusted tasks (diplomacy, army, etc.), resulting in a stronger empire.
Aside from the singleplayer mode, Europa Universalis: Rome for PC offers a multiplayer playground for up to 32 players at the same time.

An official add-on for Europa Universalis: Rome – a spin-off of the popular strategy series, developed continuously from 2001 by Paradox Interactive. Similarly to the base game, the action of the expansion takes us to Antiquity, documenting the rise of the Roman Empire from 280 B.C. to 27 B.C. The Vae Victis expansion introduces a slew of new, previously unavailable mechanics to the game. Above others, the game places even bigger emphasis on famous personas, each of them has their own personality and can prove indispensable to player’s actions. The add-on introduces a new aspect of internal politics in form of the Senate. The monarchies and tribes also received their own courts, full of traitors and schemers. The whole game is complemented by numerous technical updates, such as improved AI or a more transparent, intuitive interface.
