Fairy Tail 2 is the second installment of a jRPG series launched in 2020, based on the manga of the same title. The game is the result of a collaboration between Gust studio, which created its predecessor, and Koei Tecmo company, which oversees the brand.

Plot

Fairy Tail 2 once again takes us to the fantasy universe created for the original manga. The main characters of the game are Natsu and Lucy, of the titular magicians' guild. They must go against Emperor Spriggan from the Alvarez Empire, deal with his elite "Spriggan 12" team, and also face the world destroyer known as the Black Dragon, Acnologia.

In addition to presenting us with the climax of the original manga, the game allows us to explore a completely new story, titled "Key to the Unknown". Moreover, characters have dedicated quests, which allows us to get to know them better.

Gust and Koei Tecmo's Fairy Tail 2 does a great job of enveloping players in the story of the anime, even if its mechanics leave a bit to be desired.

A definite recommendation for Fairy Tail fans, Fairy Tail 2 has its issues, mainly with pacing, but the overall package is an enjoyable journey with a beloved cast of characters.

While the gameplay systems are solid, they aren’t enough of a positive to overcome that fans would likely receive a more complete narrative elsewhere. Add to that the game’s technical issues, and Fairy Tail 2 ends up being hard to recommend.
