An RPG with a turn-based combat system, in which we're trying to save a world of music. Fretless: The Wrath of Riffson allows us to pick riffs like cards from the deck and we can also launch special crescendo attacks. We gradually unlock new types of guitars and also improve all the musical instruments we already own.
Fretless: The Wrath of Riffson is an RPG enriched with elements of a music game. The game was developed by the independent team Ritual Studios.
In Fretless: The Wrath of Riffson we watch the action from a bird's eye view.
During the game, we explore a fantasy world largely inspired by music, we have conversations with its inhabitants, complete quests and gain allies, as well as fight battles with opponents.
On our way, we encounter percussion mushrooms or rocky rocks, and the battles with them take place in turn-based mode. Watching the battlefield from the side, we select riffs with various applications, playing them like cards from a deck and linking them into combinations. We can rely on both offensive sounds that hurt enemies, as well as defensive moves and those that strengthen our character.
Additionally, the game implemented a crescendo bar. Filling it results in the ability to launch a powerful attack. Its proper use can change the course of many battles, however its activation requires successful completion of a special Quick Time Event.
As we progress, we unlock new riffs, which expands our range of possibilities on the battlefield. Over time we also accumulate various and increasingly powerful guitars, as well as modifications to the ones we already own (bridges, strings and others), which also increases our combat potential.
Fretless: The Wrath of Riffson transports us to a fantasy land where music takes center stage. Rick Riffson, the boss of the sinister company Super Metal Records, decided to use the Battle of the Bands contest to take control of the entire industry, enslaving musicians in the process. All hope for the salvation of this world now rests on the shoulders of Rob Scallon, the main character, whose goal becomes restoring harmony before things go too far.
