Hammerwatch is a combination of adventure action game and classic hack'n'slash. The story takes players to Castle Hammerwatch, where a team of daredevils embarks on a dangerous quest to kill the evil dragon. The game is designed to play in cooperation mode for up to four people.
Hammerwatch on PC, Switch etc. is the work of the development duo Jochum Skoglund and Niklas Myrberg. The authors' ambition was to create a game that would refer to the traditional "dungeon crawlers" of the Gauntlet series, and at the same time included elements of more modern action-RPG and hack'n'slash games, such as Diablo, Titan Quest and others.
The plot of Hammerwatch's main campaign has only been loosely outlined. The action takes place in a large castle. A group of daredevils take on the challenge of finding and killing the evil dragon. Heroes travel through dungeons and chambers full of deadly traps and dangerous enemies.
The main campaign consists of twelve levels divided into four acts. In addition, the creators have foreseen a survival mode, allowing for relatively small arenas to face an infinite number of opponents pushing waves. Thanks to the built-in editor there is also an option to design your own boards.
Heroes created by players can belong to four separate character classes. Each of them is different in of available skills and tactics. The creators have also not forgotten about the possibility of developing characters based on enhancements or unlockable elements.
The game is focused on a dynamic action, in which the fight plays a leading role. Heroes have to deal with a variety of opponents, including board bosses, as they complete the levels.
Hammerwatch allows you to have fun solo, but it reveals its full potential during the game in cooperation. Multiplayer allows up to four players to play together via LAN or the Internet, as well as on a shared screen.
Visual setting of the game on PC, Switch, etc. is maintained in retro style. Two-dimensional graphics with top-down view and exposed pixelization effect refers to the production from the era of 8 and 16 bit computers. The soundtrack included Two Feathers' songs.
