Meridian: New World is a science-fiction real-time strategy game by Elder Games.
The game offers only single player mode. We assume the role of Daniel Hanson, the commander of the first human expedition to the eponymous planet. The production focuses on telling an interesting story. Every mission is connected to the main storyline, while the story is driven by the actions and decisions of the protagonist. Between the battles, we have the opportunity to explore the base located on a ship and talk to other squad . Both the conversations and the choices made during the missions shape the further course of the plot.
As far as gameplay mechanics are concerned, Meridian: New World remains faithful to the basic rules of the RTS genre, therefore we spend most of the time on gathering resources, building bases, training units and fighting battles. A wide selection of all kinds of items further enriches the combat ability of our armies. The players also have a lot of freedom in choosing a strategy. We may attempt a full frontal assault with a large army, but a stealthy solution, like sneaking in with small sabotage groups, will work just as fine.
In Meridian: New World, the story is closely integrated with the gameplay. Our methods influence the further course of the story and other characters’ attitude towards us. For example: if we sacrifice too many soldiers, we will lose the favor of our subordinates. The game is also enriched with RPG elements – during missions, Daniel Hanson gathers experience points for which we buy new commanding skills.
