Mechanics
Mechanically Meridian: Squad 22 does not differ significantly from its original released about 2 years earlier. Gameplay combines classic RTS elements with an extensive plot. The nonlinear action is pushed forward by dialogues between missions, the player’s choices, and tactic decisions.
The strategic aspect concentrates on gathering resources, building a base, training units, and fighting enemies. Battles feature tactic complexity that enables the player to use different combat strategies – you can take care of every soldier or treat them as cannon fodder and pursuit the goal no matter the price. The title features a number of gadgets, which influence your squads’ abilities. There is also a simple development system, due to which, with progress, you gain a set of leadership skills.
Game modes
Meridian: Squad 22 is a single player production. Even though you can finish it in about 10 hours, the campaign is includes more than a hundred of procedurally generated missions in Planetary Conquest mode.
Technical aspects
Once again powered by Unity engine, graphics in Meridian: Squad 22 released on PC maintain a very similar level as the original game and feature almost identical, extraordinarily colourful style. Typically for this kind of games, the action is seen from an isometric point of view. Different battles take place on diverse terrains (like land or sea) and are seasoned with attractive special effects. The diligently produced soundtrack by the award-winning Hexany Audio team also deserves to be acknowledged.
