Might and Magic: World of Xeen for PC is a special edition of Might and Magic which combines the fourth and the fifth installment of the series. Events of both games took place in a grand, open world of Xeen, and their main theme was uniting its dark and light side.
The world of Xeen, divided into two parts, came to be under the rule of a man named Alander who settled in the dark side of the land, imprisoned prince Roland and queen Kalindra, and bribed local monsters. The tyrant sent his best general, Lord Xeen, to the light side. The man imprisoned its governor, Crodo, and took over the castle in the skies. After the defeat of the demonic ruler, it turns out that the said Alamar is Guardian Shelt himself whom we pursued from the very beginning of the saga. The player’s task is to find a way to beat the villain and unite the torn realm.
The biggest bonus of the Might and Magic IV and V compilation are additional quests and locations that are unavailable in either game separately. These include Great Southern Sphinx, Dragon Tower, Darkstone Tower, and the most interesting one: Dungeon of Death. The first level of the dungeon is in fact nothing else than a big crossword that we have to solve.
The saga’s developers planned the ability to combine Clouds of Xeen way back when. Thanks to this, after the completion of the fourth installment of the series, the game is continued as it would in the fifth one.
Compared to the previous installments of the series, a couple of changes were made in gameplay mechanics. The most notable ones include implementing the notepad where all information concerning quests, trails, s, and visited locations are recorded. The difficulty level was also increased, although we still can select one of two available options. Also, a new compartment for story items appeared in the equipment. Thanks to this, we won’t sell or discard them by mistake.
On the technical side, World of Xeen for PC is powered by the modified version of Might and Magic III engine which uses VGA graphics and modern sound cards for the first time in history of the series. The game also features a new, more -friendly interface. Moreover, releasing both titles as World of Xeen on a single CD allowed the developers to enrich their content with high-quality digitalized dialogues.
