Nancy Drew Video Game Series
A series of detective adventure games based on the themes of the Nancy Drew novel series. The brand is mainly developed by Her Interactive.
The series was released in 1998 with the Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill game, which was well received by adventure games fans. This encouraged the development team of Her Interactive to work on the idea. Over the course of 15 years, the series lived to see more than 40 installments. Most of them were released for PC, however in a few cases the devs were also tempted by ports or even separate titles addressed to, among others, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS consoles, as well as, smartphones and tablets.
The main character of the series Nancy Drew is the young detective known from the bestselling series of teenage detective stories by Carolyn Keene (in fact, this is a pseudonym under which many authors hide). Only some games are based on the plot of the books (Nancy Drew: The Secret of the Old Clock), as in many cases the developers have made an effort to provide completely new stories.
In each installment of the series, the player's task is to direct the actions of the main character, who is trying to solve a criminal mystery. This requires, exploring locations, solving puzzles, and talking to NPCs. The difficulty level of the individual challenges isn't excessively high, which is a nod to the younger audiences.
Most of the games in the Nancy Drew series offer visuals, combining 2 and 3D graphics (most often the backgrounds are two-dimensional and the character models are three-dimensional). Noteworthy is the fact that, despite the form of a detective story, the various installments of the series don't exude the sight of blood or violence, making them accessible to audiences of a wide age range.

This time the story focuses on the disappearance of Magnus, the captain of the famous ship called the Heerlijkheid, also serving as a museum. Drew has to find him and put an end to the rumors, according to which Magnus ran off with a treasure he found or gave himself up to some dark forces. The gameplay of Nancy Drew: Sea of Darkness focuses on solving more or less complex puzzles and talking to NPCs to find the right clues. You also discover many facts about Iceland, the Heerlijkheid, and even learn how to tie sailing knots. Interestingly, the puzzle difficulty level can be adjusted. The game utilizes a developing technology with modifications, which provide quality visuals.
