Story

RailGods of Hysterra transports us to a grim, devastated world, over which the great ancients have taken control. We are talking about beings so powerful that an ordinary mortal's attempt to comprehend them ends in madness. We play as the dreamers who, after waking up from the Dreamland, are linked with the titular RailGod.

We're talking about a hybrid of a locomotive and a space creature, pulling wagons behind it and feeding on bodies. All of this makes it a mobile and conscious fortress, which at the same time is our only chance in the fight against the great ancients.

Gameplay

In RailGods of Hysterra we watch the action in an isometric view. Time and space have been distorted by the great ancients, so the areas we reach, as well as the challenges we face when visiting the last bastions of humanity, are randomly generated.

Combat

While exploring the dark land, we often face adversaries, among which creatures from the Cthulhu mythology and degenerate fanatics are predominant. The battles are dynamic, and we can fight in close combat or at a distance, using weapons as well as combat skills and magic. An important result of combat is that captured and sacrificed enemies serve as fuel for the locomotive, allowing us to continue our journey.

Developing the train and characters

As we progress, we improve and expand the train with specialized wagons, gradually turning it into an increasingly powerful entity. Over time, our bond with this being also develops.

Additionally, we advance characters, deepening our knowledge about dark arts and rituals, providing us with access to new skills. Their combat potential also increases due to the acquired or manufactured equipment, led by tools and weapons.

The state of the dreamers is reflected by three indicators - apart from health and hunger, we must pay attention to their sanity, which decreases when we witness various horrors.

Co-op

We can play RailGods of Hysterra alone or in cooperative mode over the Internet for up to 4 people.
