Strategic Command WWII: World at War is an extensive turn-based strategy game, the action of which is set during World War II. The title represents a series started in 2002, developed by Fury Software and Slitherine.
In Strategic Command WWII: World at War we take control of the forces of the Allies or Axis countries and take part in the most important military operations around the globe in 1939-1945. Interestingly, nothing stands in the way of changing the course of history, for example, leading to the victory of countries that have actually lost.
The game takes place in turn-based mode, on a map covered with a hexagonal grid, shown from a top-down perspective. Territories not under our control are covered by the fog of war, which means that we have only partial knowledge about the subsequent actions of the opponents.
In addition to leading troops to subsequent battles fought on land, water and in the air, during the game we deal with a lot of other things. Our job ise primarily to take care of supply lines, work on improvements for individual units (each nation has a different range of units available in the game, reflecting its actual level of development at that time), and finally to acquire new allies (control over them can be entrusted to artificial intelligence) and espionage.
The pillar of Strategic Command WWII: World at War is the Grand Campaign, which begins in 1939. Apart from it, however, the developers provide us with a number of smaller scenarios. In addition, the title not only enables us to play on our own, but also to play multiplayer games via the Internet or in hot seat.
Apart from that, the devs provided us with an extensive, yet easy to use editor that enables us to create our own scenarios.
The visual sphere of Strategic Command WWII: World at War does not differ significantly from what we were used to in the previous parts of the series. Players can choose whether they prefer to use traditional two-dimensional unit icons or prefer the more modern three-dimensional models.
