Release Date: Q4 2025
The third installment of the TPP stealth series from Cyanide studio, featuring the titular goblin as the main protagonist. Styx: Blades of Greed offers a new story and a bunch of new features, including large open maps and the option to use quartz for things like mind control or time manipulation.
Styx: Blades of Greed is the third part of the action-adventure game series representing the stealth subgenre. This IP was started by Styx: Master of Shadows released in 2014. Just like the predecessors, it is a work of the French studio Cyanide.
In of mechanics, Styx: Blades of Greed draws heavily from the achievements of the two previous installments of the series, but also introduces a lot of its own elements.
We view the action from behind the hero's back (TPP). The adventure leads us through three vast areas, namely The Wall (a high wall separating the world of humans), the orc-inhabited village of Turquoise Dawn, and the ruined Akenash - the capital of the elves. Each of the locations is expanded not only in width, but also in height, and access to subsequent areas is unlocked as we progress, just like in metroidvania games. The main character and his entourage move around on board an airship that serves as their mobile base of operations.
Although the game allows us to participate in open actions, due to the fact that enemies most often have a physical and numerical advantage over the titular goblin, a much better solution is to sneak behind their backs and eliminate them by surprise. In achieving his goals, Styx is aided by both potions and a wide range of skills.
The power of resin allows him to create his clones (used to distract enemies and solve environmental puzzles that require two pairs of hands) and to become invisible for a moment. The newly added quartz gives him the ability to control minds and manipulate time (the latter comes in handy when we are detected, giving us extra seconds to escape).
Styx relies on his equipment both during exploration and when dealing with opponents. The hero uses his claws, which allow him to climb walls, a grappling hook that gives him access to hard-to-reach places, and a glider that allows him to cover large distances in the air.
The action of Styx: Blades of Greed takes place after the events depicted in the game Styx: Shards of Darkness. The titular goblin leads the team in search of quartz. It is a new and powerful, yet not fully explored, source of energy. The situation is complicated by the fact that he has made many enemies. Additionally, the continent of Iserian is on the brink of a Great War between humans, elves, and orcs.
The game also allows us to see how the Black Hand was born - they are a group of mercenaries who played a key role in Of Orcs and Men. This was a 2012 RPG, in which Styx was one of the main characters.
