In the game the player assumes the role of a pilot of a small space ship and is tasked with exterminating hordes of Aliens and destroying meteorites. Player can choose from many levels and the game s online scoreboards where s can compare their achievements.
Super Stardust Ultra VR is another installment of the series of space shoot’em ups known from Sony consoles. This time Housemarque studio moved the action to the virtual reality by adding a new gameplay mode which completely breaks the convention of its predecessors. The game was released on PS4 in 2016.
Super Stardust Ultra VR for PS4 takes place in the future. In the game player assumes the role of a pilot of a small spaceship. His main and basically only task is to exterminate incoming hordes of aliens and eliminate meteorites that can crash into his ship. Various difficulty levels and online leaderboards are available, allowing the players to show their results to others.
Super Stardust Ultra VR for PS4 was designed for virtual reality. This is represented not only in refreshment of game modes known from previous installments of the series, but in a completely new mode as well. The main novelty of Super Stardust Ultra VR is the Invasion Zone mode. It was designed specifically for PlayStation VR and has a different perspective – the action is shown from first-person perspective and the player is aiming by moving his head. Despite the fact that player don’t have full control over the ship, he can freely look around in order to search for targets. Weapons from other game modes are available in Invasion Zone as well – during the battle one can use plasma cannons, rocket launchers, machine guns and electromagnetic missiles.
In addition to that, Super Stardust Ultra VR offers nine game modes known from Super Stardust Ultra, in which the ship is controlled by using two analog sticks and the camera is observing the action from the side, by rotating around the three-dimensional planet on which the battle currently takes place. Each game mode was refreshed in order to be adapted to PlayStation VR. In addition to that, the option to stream game online returns. The game also has multiplayer mode that allows cooperation or rivalry of up to four players.
Super Stardust Ultra VR for PS4 works on the same engine as Super Stardust Ultra. The differences in the regular game modes are cosmetic and limited to adapting the game to the specifics of PlayStation VR. It’s different with the Invasion Zone mode where the FPP view forced the players to create a fully three-dimensional environment. However, it didn’t impact the general style of the game because the models were taken from other game modes.
