The Captain is a science-fiction adventure game. The game was developed by Swedish studio Sysiac Games.

Plot

The story is set in the distant future, at a time when humanity has colonized large areas of space. The main character is Captain Thomas Welmu, Spaceflet's science officer, lost on the other side of the galaxy. The protagonist discovers that dark forces are heading towards Earth planning to destroy it, as well as finds the only thing that can stop it. Welmu will have to return home quickly and save humanity.

Game mechanics

The Captain is an adventure game with a poin-n-click interface. While playing, the player has a lot of freedom to create events. He can plan his own route to Earth, and each possible route offers unique adventures and challenges. Along the way, every now and then he must make tough decisions that shape the fate of both him and his crew, as well as the other inhabitants of the galaxy. Many of the characters we encounter can also our crew.

Most of the gameplay is typically adventurous in nature, in which we explore locations, hold conversations and interact with objects and characters. Light strategic elements have been added to these standard solutions. During the course of the game, the player must upgrade and repair his spaceship, make tactical decisions (e.g. when encountering enemy units, decide to attack or try to sneak past unnoticed) and manage funds.

The game draws fully from classic science-fiction series. Many of the adventures take the form of small closed stories, reminiscent of TV episodes. We fight star battles, explore secret bases, meddle in the affairs of other civilizations, take part in a police investigation on an alien planet or perform tasks in a galactic resort. Each of these stories is largely shaped by our own decisions.
