The Elder Scrolls: Legends is strategy card game, set in the universe of the iconic RPG series, launched in 1994 on PC. The title is available in a free-to-play model, and it was developed by Bethesda's in-house dev team, i.e. the developers of all previous installments of the series, including The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, MMORPG released in 2014.

Mechanics

The mechanics of The Elder Scrolls: Legends are fundamentally similar to other popular card games like Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft from Blizzard, who was supposed to be the direct competitor of Bethesda's game. The main difference is that the title combines elements of narrative and characters, known from the subsequent installments of The Elder Scrolls series, such as Morrowind, Oblivion or Skyrim, as well as The Elder Scrolls Online, which gives the game a unique character.

Strategy

The Elder Scrolls: Heroes of Skyrim is an expansions to the The Elder Scrolls: Legends card game from Bethesda Softworks. The expansion introduces over 150 new cards with characters and monsters from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, with Aela the Huntress, J’Zargo, Delphine, and dragons Alduin and Paarthurnax being among them. Heroes of Skyrim, however, introduces not only new cards, but also new gameplay mechanics. Dragons, for example, are available to decks of all attributes and most of them reward us for decks made of various reptiles. This add-on also adds the famous Shouts to the base game. They have three power levels. The more we use them, the more powerful they get. Companion cards are the last thing on the change list. They work as a modification of the Change ability take the form of a beast after a rune is destroyed. The Elder Scrolls: Heroes of Skyrim introduces a couple of new themes for the game, like College of Winterhold or Civil War.

The story is the selling point of the Brotherhood expansion. It’s on you the player to help decide the Brotherhood’s fate. Save them or help destroy them. The new cards introduced liven up the game and add more choices to it.

Quillstreak: 81 / 100 by Jordan Oloman

The Elder Scrolls Legends stands on its own two feet in the trendy genre of computer card games with its unique mechanics and consistent, surprising gameplay. If you're looking for a CCG with lore at its core and deck-building at its heart, give this free to play title a whirl.

GameCrate: 8.3 / 10 by Nate Hohl

I understand that, as a CCG fan who prefers PvE play, I am in the minority, but The Elder Scrolls: Legends has honestly been the first digital CCG that felt like it was welcoming me in with open arms instead of forcing me to either play PvP or make do with subpar alternatives. Bethesda certainly has some stiff competition going up against games like Hearthstone and CD Projekt Red's standalone Gwent game, but as far as first impressions go, I have never been more pleasantly surprised by a CCG than I was by The Elder Scrolls: Legends.
