An action game, in which we play as a rookie cop. The Precinct tasks us with maintaining order in the city of Averno, foiling procedurally generated crimes while investigating the death of the protagonist's father. We'll get to traverse the city on foot, in a police car or a helicopter.
The Precinct is an open world action game with simulation elements. It's a neo-noir police thriller created by Fallen Tree Games. It was inspired by 1980s and 1990s movies.
Plot
United States East Coast, 1983. Nick Cordell Jr. - a recent graduate of the police academy - begins his service in the city of Averno plagued by corruption and injustice. He begins his fight against the petty criminals and dangerous gangs dwelling within the city while investigating the death of his father, killing in the line of duty.
Mechanics
The Precinct is an isometric game, set in an open, freely traversible city. Since we're a police rookie, most of our shifts begin with visiting the police station and attending the briefing. After that, we'll patrol the streets of Averno on foot, in a police car or a helicopter.
We'll need to intervene during fights, check parting meters and issue tickets. There are also car chases against criminals, during which we can call for reinforcements, more cars, roadblocks or spike strips. We'll also interfere in bank robberies and take part in raids. Crimes are procedrually generated, so the protagonist always has something to do.
Averno is divided into districts - we'll get to operate in both the slum areas and affluent streets where financiers work. The city constantly changes due to the day and night cycle, as well as the dynamic weather.

The Precinct review: Arrested development
While its first few hours show real promise, The Precinct quickly bogs down in repetition, lackluster storytelling, and frustrating design choices that make law enforcement feel more like a chore than a calling.

Gamepressure Review
The Precinct
The Precinct looks the part and briefly plays it, too. Its early hours make you feel like a genuine cop, but it quickly becomes clear that the game lacks the structure and depth to sustain its premise.

ZTGD: 8.5 / 10 by Terrence Johnson
The moment-to-moment gameplay feels just like watching those cop shows from the 80’s; running perps down on foot, getting into crazy shootouts and exploding cars, even your partner telling you how close to retirement he is; everything about The Precinct is so deliciously 80’s and I thoroughly savored and enjoyed every moment of it.
Push Square: 8 / 10 by Robert Ramsey
The Precinct is an impressive sandbox romp. Fueled by a dynamic crime system that offers up hours of fun, bite-sized objectives, it's a very difficult game to put down. Every patrol is different, and although tedium does start to set in as the campaign approaches its conclusion, it's still easy to appreciate the intricate and tight design of this ode to old cop movies.
Cloud Dosage: 3.5 / 5 by Jon Scarr
It’s not the most refined open-world game, but there’s enough personality and mayhem to leave an impression—especially if you miss the days of top-down GTA.
