Will tomorrow be a good day for fans of classic 2D The Precinct will be released. While we have to wait for reviews and first impressions, after watching trailers we can say that this sandbox police game seems to capture the spirit of Rockstar's older productions, although this time you play as a good guy. Players end up in Averno City, a place full of crimes. Our mission is simple – protect citizens as a policeman. So, patrol the streets, respond to callouts and chase suspects. All that in the 80s setting. So, can you do these things in co-op? Let's take a look at the situation.
Coop in The Precinct explained
The Precinct is not an AAA game. It was created by a small studio called Fallen Tree Games. You may know it for American Fugitive. As you might expect, developers can't afford to implement too many features due to financial restrictions. So, what about multiplayer? From the official FAQ posted on Steam, we can learn that the game doesn’t multiplayer. The priority was to create the best possible experience for a single player.
No. The Precinct is being made by a small developer team, who are focused on delivering a seamless and enjoyable single-player experience.
For some people, this is disappointing news. Playing the role of a police officer duo with a friend could be really entertaining. Unfortunately, there is a lack of games that allow it. The Precinct didn’t change anything in this regard.
If you really want to play a cop game in co-op, you should try Police Stories. It’s not particularly the same as The Precinct (it’s a tactical shooter) but it can still give you a lot of fun. In this production you can take part in high-risk operations like infiltrating gang hideouts or rescuing hostages.
