Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is a third-person open world shooter, part of an iconic series originating from 2001. It was developed and published by Ubisoft, the company in charge of the franchise.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is set in the same universe as its predecessor, Wildlands. It's not a direct sequel, as the game tells an entirely new story.
The game takes place on a fictional Pacific island of Auroa, where our protagonist is dispatched to in order to investigate why the island lost with the rest of the world. Upon arriving, Nomad - a member of the titular Ghost unit, discovers the island has been taken over by a mercenary army composed of former commandos, led by a man named Walker (played by Jon Bernthal, known for his main role in Netflix' Punisher). The matter is serious, as the island is where the HQ of Skell is located, a corporation developing advanced military technology. The player must get the situation back under control and find out why did the mercenaries take over the island.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint makes use of both the TPP perspective and the FPP perspective when looking down iron sights. The game's world is open, traversible on foot or in about thirty various vehicles. The game differs from the previous installments, as if we're playing solo, we won't be accompanied by AI-controlled allies.
The player must complete main missions to progress the story; this requires recon and gathering intelligence (mainly through talking to NPCs, interrogating enemies and collecting data). The game was designed to be beatable in a special mode not featuring mission markers. There are also numerous side quests and optional abilities to complete. A new feature of the game are looter shooter mechanics. Acquired equipment and weapons all have levels attributed, requiring switching out our gear to keep up with the enemies.
Though combat plays an important role (the game introduces new weapons and gadgets, such as rocket launchers and burners to cut holes in fences), the game also introduces new, survival-like mechanics. For example, our protagonist can receive long-lasting injuries, affecting their combat capabilities. These injuries can be treated through various means.
Another new feature is natural camouflage; the protagonist can cover themselves in mud to blend into the environment and prepare an ambush. Some cutscenes also implement dialogue options for us to choose from. Breakpoint also lets us choose our character's specialization, becoming better at what we do as we progress.
Aside from its story campaign, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint also offers two multiplayer modes, those being playing through the campaign in co-op (letting us share equipment with our companions in special camps and carry wounded allies to safety), as well as the PvP Ghost Wars mode. Our character's growth and progression is shared in all available modes.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint features high-quality 3D visuals. The environments, characters and weapon models are all highly detailed. The lighting is just as realistic.
It's worth noting the game's production and script were supervised by a military advisor, Emil Daubon, who has served in the American Green Berets since 2005.

Breakpoint is an unsuccessful, shapeless blend of ideas from all Ubisoft games. In the endless flood of virtual garbage to collect and buy, there was not even a trace of the cult Ghost Recon series.
