Rise of the Tomb Kings is the first large expansion to the 2017 strategy game called Total War: Warhammer II, set in the iconic universe known from the tabletop wargame. This DLC has been developed by the British studio Creative Assembly and introduces the titular Tomb Kings faction.

Total War: Warhammer II – Rise of the Tomb Kings is an expansion to the 2017's strategy game set in the Warhammer universe. The game was developed by Creative Assembly, known for creating consecutive installments in the Total War series.
The titular Tomb Kings are the undead Priest Kings of Nehekhara – an ancient human civilization that ruled a mighty empire while other humans were primitive barbarians wearing pelts. Nehekhara people were known to pursue immortality that has resulted in the creation of multiple death cults and the erection of mighty pyramids – tombs that were to give the ancient rulers life after death. This civilization has fallen because of the treason of Khemri (one of the priests) and Nagash (the first necromancer in Warhammer's history). They have put a curse on the Priest Kings that turned them into the undead monsters they are now.
Total War: Warhammer II – Rise of the Tomb Kings for PC does not introduce a new story. Instead, this expansion revolves around providing players with new gameplay mechanics featured by the entirely new faction in the two available campaigns including the Eye of the Vortex and the Mortal Empires campaign, which has been added after the game's premiere and is a combined mega campaign comprising locations featured in Total War: Warhammer II.
Players get four legendary lords at their disposal. Mechanics introduced along with the new faction is based on themes characteristic for Tomb Kings faction - i.a. unlocking new abilities as the number of fallen warriors increases. Players can also resurrect the fallen squads and heal their units.
Total War: Warhammer II – Rise of the Tomb Kings for PC does not differ from the core game, which means that the expansion is based on the improved version of the Warscape graphics engine, also used for the development of the previous installment.
