The debut game of Trigger Happy Interactive. Turbo Overkill stars Johnny Turbo, a cyborg mercenary returning to his hometown of Paradise, tasked with eliminating the AI controlling the city.
Turbo Overkill is a first-person shooter and the debut project of Trigger Happy Interactive. It stars a cyborg living in a cyberpunk-inspired dystopia, tasked with destroying the artificial intelligent controlling his hometown.
The game is set in a dystopian, cyberpunk future. Its protagonist is Johnny Turbo, a cyborg mercenary returning to his hometown of Paradise. Once there, he finds the city taken over by an AI called Syn, which possessed the citizens and implemented a reign of terror using its cybernetic army. In desperate need of money, Johnny accepts the seemingly suicidal job to destroy the AI, facing off against its minions and rival bounty hunters.
Turbo Overkill is a first-person shooter inspired by such series as Quake. The player must fight their way through hordes of enemies using various weapons and special abilities. The game heavily emphasizes mobility. Johnny can use a grappling hook to draw himself closer to surfaces, run at extreme speeds, wall jump and slide into enemies, slicing them open with his chainsaw leg. Killing enemies grants money, used to upgrade the character and his weapons.
The firearm roster is vast and diverse, including dual revolvers with homing bullets, a shotgun with a grenade launcher attachment, a sniper rifle that teleports Johnny to where the bullet hit, ripping the enemy to shreds from the inside, and many others. There are also special weapons players can install in Johnny's body, such as an arm-built rocket launcher. Upgrades can be purchased or taken from defeated bosses.
Turbo Overkill features a singleplayer campaign with over twenty levels, many secrets and optional challenges.
The game's visuals and audio are both very impressive. The smooth gameplay, lighting and artstyle portraying a futuristic dystopia are all very appealing.

Game Ratings for Turbo Overkill Video Game.
Destructoid: 7.5 / 10 by Zoey Handley
Turbo Overkill loses itself in its constant push for escalation. It’s often not as clever as it thinks it is, and there’s a real sense of quantity over quality. Packing in more mechanics is certainly a type of progress, but a better focus on fewer concepts probably would have elevated the game as a whole. As it is, it’s still a perfectly fun time, and I’d be completely willing to revisit it in a sequel, but it just doesn’t quite climb to the lofty top of the retro-inspired scrap heap.
ComingSoon.net: 8.5 / 10 by Tyler Treese
Trigger Happy Interactive’s Turbo Overkill, which is published quite appropriately by Apogee Entertainment, has made the leap without becoming a lesser experience.
Thumb Culture: 4 / 5
Turbo Overkill is a high adrenaline throwback to first person shooter origins. It sets itself apart from others though in its cyberpunk, vibrant atmosphere and curious weapon and body modification systems. If you haven’t picked it up already on PC, maybe the console port is more your style. Turbo Overkill definitely earns itself the Thumb Culture Gold Award.
