A digital adaptation of the strategy board game created by American company GMT Games. Twilight Struggle takes place during the Cold War and the player assumes the role of a leader of one of the two empires – USA or USSR. The game is played in turns on a global map. The rivaling sides are playing with cards that trigger events beneficial for one, either, or neither side of the conflict.
Twilight Struggle is a digital adaptation of the strategy board game. Both versions of the game were developed by GMT Games, an American company that was founded in 1990 and until now was only creating board games. The company released more than 200 of board games among which the bestselling ones were Twilight Struggle, Commands & Colors series, Combat Commander series, Labyrinth and Battle Line. Twilight Struggle is the first title moved by GMT Games to digital platforms, including to PC, PS4 and etc..
The game takes place during the Cold War. The player assumes the role of a leader of one of two empires – the USA or the USSR. The game is played in a turn-based system. The opponents are playing drawn cards which triggers events profitable for both sides, for one side or neutral. These cards strengthen their position in the region, weaken the opponent, develop the space program or give them strategic advantage. By doing so, players gather Victory Points. The player who will have more of them at the end of the game wins.
The “What If” mode is an interesting addition to the game. It allows playing the game in an alternative reality in which for example Berlin was conquered by western nations and the elections in England in 1945 were again won by Churchill and his party.
Twilight Struggle contains a singleplayer mode as well in which the player receives random cards and must use them to finish the game. It is worth mentioning that the game is available in many language versions: English, French, Italian, German, Spain, Russian, Czech, Polish, Chinese and Korean (in PC, Mac and Linux versions of the game).
