A first-person boomer shooter kept in a pixelated retro style. Viscerafest allows us to play as a psycho mercenary from the distant future, eliminating hordes of aliens and monsters on her path. The game copies a lof of ideas from Doom and other genre classics, including the visuals and general gameplay mechanics.
Viscerafest is a dynamic FPS maintained in a retro style. The game was inspired by the giants of the genre from the 1990s (which makes it a so-called boomer shooter). This project is the result of a collaboration between independent studios Acid Man Games and Fire Plant Games.
In Viscerafest the action is viewed from a first-person perspective (FPP). The adventure leads us through the deck of a space station located in Earth's orbit, as well as lands from an alternative dimension.
While traversing through different levels, we mainly focus on eliminating hordes of enemies, among which we will find aliens and all sorts of monsters. We are dealing mostly with standard enemies and we kill them in large numbers. There are also more powerful individuals and defeating them requires greater effort.
We can make use of a wide range of futuristic weapons, including both classic guns like the double-barreled Bunker Buster shotgun, and more inventive murder tools, led by the Pung Cannon.
During battles, we must be constantly moving, using tactics associated with old-school shooters, led by the so-called bunny hopping (rhythmic jumping during movement, which increases our speed and makes us a harder target).
The game also includes puzzles, as well as various gadgets. We can collect them to unlock gameplay modifiers and cheat codes.
Viscerafest takes us to the year 3796 and allows us to embody the psychopathic mercenary Caroline. She wants to earn money for a wedding with her beloved and she undertakes the hunt for the warlock Cromune. This antagonist stands at the head of a small army led by Dr. Mortice. The effort put into defeating him is supposed to pay off, as a substantial reward has been offered for his head.
The graphic design of Viscerafest is maintained in a pixelated retro style, which makes the whole thing reminiscent of shooters from the first half of the 1990s.
