A fan-made remake of the cult classic Warcraft III, a game originally developed and released by Blizzard Entertainment in 2002, by WCR_Team. The title is available as a free modification powered by the StarCraft II engine; to run it, the free Starter Edition of the game is sufficient.
Warcraft: Armies of Azeroth for PC is a remake of the cult RTS, StarCraft II engine and requires only the free Starter Edition of this game to run it. The modification is available for at no cost from the Battle.net’s Arcade service.
The project faithfully recreates the story of the original. Yet again, the action takes us to the fantasy land known as Azeroth. This world once more turns into a battlefield during a great war, although this time the races known from the previous installments of the series are ed by two factions: the Undead and the Night Elves.
Warcraft: Armies of Azeroth offers four extensive campaigns, one for each of the sides of the conflict. They have to be played in a predetermined order since they tell the story of the war chronologically.
Warcraft: Armies of Azeroth for PC remains faithful to Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos also in of the gameplay mechanics. Therefore, it is still a classical RTS enriched with some RPG elements. In the game, we focus on gathering resources, developing our base, training units, and commanding them in battles.
There are four factions to choose from, each of which have unique buildings, technologies, and units. Moreover, heroes, who gather experience points to advance their level and develop their abilities, are of great importance, as well. All of this is available in both the story campaigns as well as in the multiplayer mode.
Warcraft: Armies of Azeroth for PC is superior to its original in of graphics, which were created from scratch. All models are more detailed and textures are sharper. Moreover, quite a few modern visual effects were added. At the same time, the aforementioned elements stay true to the unique style of Warcraft III. The original’s soundtrack and voice-over remained unchanged, though. The same goes for all keyboard shortcuts, although the developers did introduce some minor interface improvements.
