Release Date: 2025
A remaster of the cult RTS from 2004, set in the WH40K universe. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition offers greatly refreshed graphics, but the mechanics of the game stay true to the original. This collection contains both the base game and all of its expansions.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition is a remastered version of the cult real-time strategy game. It was originally released in 2004 under the title Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War and the remaster also contains all of the expansions. Relic Entertainment, a studio specialized in this genre, is responsible for both the refresh and the original.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition stands out from the original primarily due to its thoroughly refreshed graphic design. The developers focused not only on the resolution (in the case of units, it was increased at least four times), but also on the lighting (providing more detailed shadows, reflections and gloss of certain surfaces).
In addition, the draw distance was increased, the camera work was improved, and the interface and screen layout were adjusted to work in high resolutions and on larger wide screens.
Despite the introduced changes, the developers made this title compatible with mods created for the original.
In Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition, we view the action from a bird's eye view. The gameplay scheme does not deviate too much from what most other RTS games have accustomed us to. We take control over the chosen side of the conflict, build a base and recruit various units, and then lead them into battle against enemy forces, trying to destroy their command center or achieve other objectives given to us.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition gives us access to nine factions, namely the Space Marines (technologically advanced soldiers of the Emperor), Orks, Eldars (mystical beings), Chaos (demons and heretical Space Marines), Imperial Guard (their strength lies in war machines), Tau (possessing advanced technology), ancient Necrons, Dark Eldars, and Sisters of Battle (they can be described as a kind of female version of the Space Marines). The individual sides of the conflict were differentiated in of available units, style of combat, as well as strengths and weaknesses.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition gives us access to four story campaigns. The story from the base version of the game allows us to take control of the Blood Ravens squad, who must face the invasion of orks on the planet Tartarus.
The campaign from the Soulstorm expansions, on the other hand, offer non-linear campaigns. Our job is to conquer the planet Kronus and fight for control over the Kaurava system, respectively.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition allows to play both solo and in multiplayer mode over the Internet. A maximum of 8 players can team up or fight for victory in a free-for-all mode.
