Release Date: January 7, 2025
A remastered version of an action RPG YS: The Oath in Felghana. Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana tells the story of Adol Christin, traversing the land of Felghana to restore it to greatness along with his friend Dogi.
Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is a remastered version of Ys: The Oath in Felghana, an action RPG from 2005, which itself was a remake of Ys III: Wanderers From Ys from 1989. The game was developed by Falcom, the company overseeing the franchise.
The main character of Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is Adol Christin, who returns to the eponymous Felghana accompanied by his friend Dogi, arriving to the village of Redmont. As it turns out, the place has changed beyond recognition during their absense. Monsters prowl the land, the nearby volcano is once again active, with the realm itself being oppressed by a tyrant. Adol and Dogi have no choice but to get to work and restore Felghana to its former glory.
The gameplay in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is shown from the top-down perspective. The player traverses the world, completes various quests and often battles enemies. Combat is dynamic, the key to success being constant movement, skillful use of special attacks and executing combos effectively. In addition to regular foes we'll also face powerful bosses. Progressing lets us develop our character, his new abilities letting him face greater challenges and reach previously inaccessible places.
During their work on Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana, the developers mostly focused on the game's audiovisual side. The graphics have been improved, the characters received new portraits, the main protagonist's voice lines have been voiced and the soundtrack is now of a higher quality. In addition, the player can now choose the playable character's speed.

Nintendo Life: 9 / 10 by Mitch Vogel
Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is hardly a revolutionary RPG, but it stands as an excellent reminder that sometimes less is more. The brisk pacing, thrilling combat, and cutesy visuals all come together in a wonderfully enjoyable and simple action RPG. This is an experience that makes no compromises and holds nothing back, and even if it's clearly less ambitious and expansive than many of the later entries in the series, there's also something very satisfying about playing through a game where its reach did not exceed its grasp.
TheSixthAxis: 9 / 10 by Miguel Moran
Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is like a finely aged bottle of wine opened at just the right time for just the right celebration. It's exactly what I wanted and needed right now, and the shamelessly simple yet satisfying old-school combat and adventures had me hooked instantly.
NintendoWorldReport: 8 / 10 by Neal Ronaghan
While I'm a little less over the moon about this game in 2025, I'm still very happy that Oath in Felghana is out on a modern console in the west. From the era of its release, it's one of the best action RPGs of its style and even to this day, it's still a very enjoyable one. I might recommend some of the later Ys games ahead of this one, especially if you want a more true 3D adventure, but if your goal is to check out the highs of the storied Ys series, Oath in Felghana is a must-play.
