Baldur's Gate 3 mod results in unintentionally hilarious moment
A Reddit shared one of the best unintentionally hilarious moments from using a mod that lets them play as a Kuo-Toa. Romance with Lae'zel hits different.

This morning, I was browsing Reddit, and I nearly spat out my drink when I saw one of the best the player count for Baldur’s Gate 3 has gone up significantly. The mod in question is the ability to play as a Kuo-Toa, an amphibious fish-like creature that can be encountered in the Underdark.
Baldur’s Gate 3 mod creates one of the game’s most unintentionally hilarious moments
The post, which was shared by u/Unplaceable_Accent, takes a few screenshots from an interaction their Kuo-Toa character had with Lae’zel, the gith companion. In this scene, Lae’zel begins to show romantic interest in the player character, but somehow, the drama and intrigue does not land the same when the blank, fish-like stare of a Kuo-Toa stares silently back. The ridiculousness of this image is perfectly unsettling and hilarious, exactly what I expect from this Game of the Year award winner.
The developer behind Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios, has always been vocally ive of mods, even incorporating full mod into the game. According to the development team, Some mods have had difficulty adjusting, but with so much fan , anything that isn’t fixed already surely will be soon.
Comments on the Reddit post only add to the humor of the situation. One commented: “How could you not yearn for that exquisite face?” and another says: “He has been serenading her like Billy Bass.” The top comment thread plays on the strange powers of the Kuo-Toa, who can make real anything real if they believe in it. The comment reads: “The thing about being a disgusting Kuo-Toa is that you can make any companion fall for you if you just believe hard enough.”
Recently a mod that brought Baldur’s Gate 3 to for receiving a takedown notice from Wizards of the Coast, the company that owns Dungeons & Dragons. Since the takedown, the mod is back up and Wizards of the Coast has apologized, explaining that the takedown was a mistake. But during the fallout of this situation, Baldur’s Gate 3 director Swen Vincke had some words of advice for all developers: “Free quality fan mods highlighting your characters in other game genres are proof your work resonates and a unique form of word of mouth. Imho they shouldn’t be treated like commercial ventures that infringe upon your property.” Vincke has not commented on these images, but it would be great to get his take.
