EA Working on New Battle System.
IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Electronic Arts patented a new reward system that can be used in multiplayer games;
  • It enables us to choose different paths that offer different bonuses;
  • This would allow for much more freedom to customize rewards to our liking.

It looks like Electronic Arts might be preparing a change in of the reward systems we deal with in their multiplayer games. The company patented a new variant of this mechanism. According to the description, it would offer players many more ways to customize their rewards.

The new system would be similar to the skill trees known from RPGs. We would be given many paths, which would offer completely different rewards. Players could choose the paths that interest them and focus on unlocking only those elements that pick their interest. Furthermore, s would be able to move between the main paths, creating completely unique reward chains.

Individual paths would contain rewards for both regular s and players with a .

In addition, some of them would only be available to certain character classes or of specific factions. The purpose of this is probably to get players more involved in unlocking in-game content. The patented solution would allow for a much more personalized approach instead of a predetermined seasonal challenge.

However, players probably won't be happy to hear that EA's patent descriptions already mention monetization of this type of solution. Individual stages of the paths could be available, for example, only for s or after buying virtual currency for real money. For now, however, it is not known whether the system will be introduced in any Electronic Arts game. The company has been working on it since 2018, but it has not been revealed whether this will translate into an actual application of the mechanism in the future.

The new system would enable us to use multiple paths and "move" between them.
