Fans of Final Fantasy VII and Nintendo might have a good few years to look forward to. The Switch 2 Direct already announced that Cyberpunk 2077. Many of these games appear to have versions specific to the Nintendo console

More of the Final Fantasy VII Remake series might arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2

Over the last few weeks, Nintendo has continued to publish Creator’s Voice videos on the Nintendo of America YouTube channel highlighting many of the third-party developers that announced games during the April 2nd Direct. Earlier today, the third game in the series.

One moment that stands out in today’s Creator’s Voice video, is when Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the series, mentions that he “...felt [the Nintendo Switch 2 console] would have enough power to run the Final Fantasy VII remake series [he] was creating.” Given the other third-party games that felt the same way about the Switch 2, this isn’t surprising. But one key detail here stands out. Hamaguchi felt that the system could have enough power for the “series,” not just Remake. Outside of the initial exclusivity to PlayStation consoles, the first two games in this trilogy have only appeared on PC, so making the jump to another console is a huge deal.

While rival arriving on PlayStation, Sony and PlayStation have not changed course. Both Remake and Rebirth were exclusive to the PlayStation console for about one year before launching on PC. If this strategy stays consistent with the unannounced third title, it might only be another year and a half before Rebirth makes the jump to the Switch 2. After that, it will likely take some time before we learn more about the third game in the popular series.

This potential news is somewhat shocking, just for the fact that these huge games are able to finally run on a Nintendo console. But also, the fact that these games are launching on Nintendo before coming to Xbox, a console generally comparable in power to the PlayStation 5 that has been around for years. Square Enix has shared plans recently that they would like to go multi-platform in the future, so it begs the question of why Xbox has been excluded so far. Chances are the next game in the series will at least start as a PlayStation exclusive for the first year, given the pattern we’ve seen with the first two games. But the third game may not launch for another few years, so a lot could change between now and then. What are the chances the series arrives on Xbox before then?
