According to one insider, the delay of GTA 6 was necessary, and without it the game would have been „much worse”.

At the beginning of the month, Grand Theft Auto VI, pushing it back to May 26, 2026. The fans have to wait another year, but to cheer them up, the developers soon after released a second game trailer.

The reason for the delay was the need to polish the title to the level expected by the studio's fans, who have previously enjoyed detail-packed games like Red Dead Redemption 2. One of the insiders discussing the topic of Rockstar Games provided another reason why the new release date was necessary. In doing so, he referred to an anonymous source (most likely from Rockstar itself).

One thing I'll also say is that this source made it very clear to me that a delay to 2026 was ABSOLUTELY necessary.

Game Roll is convinced that if GTA VI had launched on its originally planned date, it would have been a "much worse game." He also mentioned Jason Schreier's information that even the developers at Rockstar Games didn't believe in this year's release.

In his post, Game Roll also pointed out (based all the time on knowledge from his source) that without delay, the creators would be forced to cut out "cool stuff" just to meet the set deadline. Of course, this would result in a product of much lower quality, and that's not what we're used to from Rockstar Games.

The second trailer makes a huge impression, which shows that the devs haven't been idle for the last year and a half. All the more so, as it contains actual gameplay fragments and cutscenes recorded from within the game. An additional year for polishing should therefore only benefit the title.

Grand Theft Auto VI is currently heading exclusively for PS5 and XSX/S. In the future, the game will most likely be released on PC.
