Katana ZERO developer assures fans that DLC is still coming
To close out today's Triple-i showcase, Katana ZERO announced that DLC for the beloved indie action game is still on the way. But that's about all we know.

The developer of the Triple-i indie game showcase. The immensely popular indie game from developer Askiisoft and publisher Devolver Digital launched in 2019 to praise from critics and fans alike. Currently, the game has 98% positive reviews from players on Steam out of over sixty thousand reviews. The teaser trailer shown today did not give much away, but did promise fans that DLC is still coming, and most importantly, it will still be free.
Katana ZERO DLC is still coming, still free, in new trailer
Katana ZERO is the breakout game from developer Askiisoft. Gameplay-wise, it’s a 2D action platformer where you play as a samurai able to manipulate time. It’s a stunning pixel-art, cyberpunk, neo-noir story with brutal action, tense situations, and opportunities for acrobatics. It’s not often that an indie game is able to bring DLC almost six years after its launch, but Katana ZERO is assuring fans that it’s pulling it off. Plus, it’s very nice that it will be free.
The teaser for Katana ZERO closed out the Triple-i showcase, serving as the indie presentation’s “one more thing.” Fans could see that the developer was listed as a participant ahead of the showcase, but no one knew exactly what they would be showcasing. DLC was a good guess, but with six years since their initial launch, a second game seemed almost as likely.
Of course, there is still so much we don’t know about what this Katana ZERO DLC will be. Askiisoft refused to elaborate further then the brief sixty-second trailer about when the DLC is to be expected to launch and what it will include. Though there are a few things we can gleam from the trailer.
Perhaps most telling is the final image. The protagonist poised on a tree as what look like several American soldiers wade through deep water around them. Another brief clip of a helicopter flying through a densely forested area continues to give vibes of the Vietnam War. Though, of course, this is still taking place in a futuristic, science-fiction world, and that is apparent in the trailer as well. Ultimately, this looks promising for fans of the original game, and we’ll have to be a little more patient to learn more.
