One of Most Important RPGs in History Gets a Remake and Is Now Available. Dark Wizardry Finally Sees Light of Day
A few days ago, the full version of Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord was released. It's a remake of a classic RPG from 1981, an inspiration for Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest developers.
After more than 8 months in Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord has debuted. This is a remake of the RPG released in 1981, in which we create a six-person team, explore dungeons, collect treasures, and face many enemies with an evil wizard at the helm.
- The game can be purchased on Steam and GOG for $34.99.
- The game is also available on PS4 and PS5 consoles ($39.99), XOne and XSX/S ($39.99 currently discounted to $35.99), as well as on Nintendo Switch ($39.99).
The remake comes with updated visuals and numerous improvements to gameplay and interface. However, it still remains a truly old-school title, in which deadly traps or impossible-to-win battles are a daily occurrence. For true fans, the devs have also prepared the option to enable the classic interface.
The first installment of the series Wizardry was an extremely important game in the history of the RPG genre, because it was the first to introduce the team gameplay that is very common today. Japanese players embraced it particularly well, and it is often cited as an inspiration for the creators of the Dragon Quest series.
