The Witcher 1 skill tree is coming to The Witcher 3. A CD Projekt Red contest winner shared that he’s been working on the mod for the past 8 months
His first mod earned second place in The Witcher 3 REDkit contest. Now he’s tackling an even bigger project.

You may have heard of him before, Patryk Ladocha, aka Witcher titles. In a recent conversation with us and our friends at Gry-Online, Gerwant shared some updates on his latest ambitious plan.
Bringing an old-school Witcher to the Wild Hunt
Gerwant is working on a new mod for The Witcher 3 that brings back the talent tree system from the original Witcher game, which he says he’s a big fan of. Witcher 1 Talent Tree Remake in Witcher 3 seems like another massive project.
In The Witcher 3, the interface is built using Flash. Since Gerwant is self-taught, he had to learn ActionScript, Adobe Animate, and figure out how the UI works behind the scenes – something no other modder had done before. There was no documentation or help available, and without this knowledge, it wouldn’t have been possible to add new functional tabs to the menu.
But once he cracked it and saw it could actually work, he went all in. Over eight months, he added 13 new skill tabs with 14 to 18 abilities each (more than 200 new talents in total) and even wrote up bilingual descriptions for every one of them.
My plans – further development of both mods. For Tales of the Witcher, I’m adding new areas and quests.
As for the W1 Talent Trees mod, the next step is to recreate the combat system from The Witcher 1 – specifically the fast, strong, and group fighting styles for both swords. I’ve managed to export all the animations from The Witcher 1, convert them to fit Geralt’s skeleton from Witcher 3, and run some early in-game tests.
So, in other words, chances are we’ll see a Witcher 1 remake from Gerwant before CD Projekt RED gets around to it.
The mod is currently in beta and as Gerwant mentioned, he’s open to teaming up with others to speed things up. ers can follow his progress and contribute to his work through platforms like Ko-fi and Patreon.
