A tactical RPG with a turn-based system, referred to as "spaghetti anime". Nitro Gen Omega takes us to a post-apocalyptic worlds where humanity is trying to survive after a lost war with robots. We command a group of mercenaries travelling using an airship. They also use their mech to explore the wasteland and participate in turn-based battles.

Nitro Gen Omega is a tactical RPG, referred to as "spaghetti anime" (although the whole thing is styled as anime, it was created by European developers). The game was developed by the Italian studio DESTINYbit, which has Dice Legacy in its portfolio.

Gameplay

In Nitro Gen Omega we take control of a group of mercenaries.

Exploration of the skies and devastated surface

The protagonists traverse the post-apocalyptic wastelands aboard their airship. We explore the open world in real time, watching the action from a bird's eye view. The adventure is pushed forward by missions that we undertake during visits to cities and facilities.

However, when the heroes have to descend to the surface, they take control of their mech, occupying specific positions on its deck. Visits to the surface most often end with meeting opponents, with whom we engage in turn-based skirmishes.

Tactical battles

The combat system developed for the game uses a timeline system. The battles themselves are divided into two phases - planning, in which we decide on the next moves of our characters, and resolution, when we set the whole thing in motion.

In order to achieve success, we must not only efficiently use the capabilities of our mech, but also delegate the operation of its systems to people equipped with the appropriate skills (we need an engineer, a shooter, or an operator). We must also demonstrate cunning and accurately predict the enemy's movements and identify their weak points. The morale of the protagonists also plays an important role, who in critical moments may refuse to carry out orders or, on the contrary, become eager to fight.

Mech development and gathering a team

As we progress, we unlock different mech models and acquire parts that allow us to upgrade the machines and adapt them to our needs and preferences. Over time we also recruit additional subordinates (procedurally generated) and develop them, unlocking their new skills.

During breaks from the turmoil on the surface, we end up on the airship, where our pilots can develop relationships with each other (based on friendship or rivalry), as well as engage in various activities that improve their statistics, such as training in the boxing ring or reading.

Story

Nitro Gen Omega transports us to a post-apocalyptic universe, where after a lost war with machines, the remnants of humanity inhabit a few cities and outposts built on powerful pillars. During the game, we take control of a group of mercenaries who traverse the devastated surface in search of food, technology, and other valuable resources.
