Amazon's Lord of the Rings Confirmed to Use Fragments of Silmarillion
Amazon Studios has a license to use excerpts from The Silmarillion and The Unfinished Tales by J.R.R. Tolkien in the script for the Lord of the Rings series.

Since the beginning of the year we have known the official description of The Lord of the Rings series from Amazon. We learned from it, among other things, that the presented story will cover the period of the Second Age in Middle-earth and we will see such places as the Misty Mountains, the Elven capital and the kingdom of Numenor. These premises made us believe that the work would be at least partially based on the events described in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion. However, it was never officially confirmed. Until now.
Suddenly there were a lot of messages on the web about the series' plot coherence with excerpts from both The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales. This information was provided by one of the most reliable websites in of news on Lord of the Rings - TheOneRing.
Amazon Studios was to receive a license to use selected fragments of these two gigantic literary works. So we should not expect them to be a complete carbon copy, but rather loose inspirations aiming at unifying the world presented in the books with the world presented in the show.
Less electrifying, but still quite important news about The Lord of the Rings TV is that Amazon has acquired the rights to create a special "merchandise" campaign using the brand. In the future there will surely be T-shirts, figurines and other gadgets directly related to the series. The seemingly obvious matter has not been definitely settled for a really long time.
Even the expected premiere date of The Lord of the Rings is unknown. The production process continues, consuming many resources and efforts of the creators. However, they are working very slowly and are clearly anxious to make a monumental work. It doesn't surprise us, after all, we're talking about the greatest fantasy universe in the history of pop culture.
