For PC gamers, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault is a cult classic that has influenced many modern FPS games. However, it was not the beginning of the franchise—two earlier installments were released before it. Unfortunately, they were made available on the first PlayStation only. Modder called TheMrBenpulido decided to change that and for several years on has been working the Medal of Honor Reborn project, which recreates the Medal of Honor: Underground campaign in Return to Castle Wolfenstein. We mention this now because the mod has just received a new version.

The update adds all three maps from Wewelsburg: Dark Camelot, which is the fourth episode of the original campaign. As a result, Medal of Honor Reborn now offers a total of fourteen maps. This means the mod is currently halfway complete, as the MOH: Underground campaign consisted of seven episodes plus an additional one with bonus levels.

The new version of Medal of Honor Reborn also improves enemy AI. Additionally, a mission objectives list has finally been added to each map. For now, this feature is quite simple—pressing TAB displays the list in text form. In the future, more refined solutions may be introduced.

Medal of Honor Reborn is a very faithful remake. The creator has not altered the map architecture compared to the PlayStation version, so by today’s standards, the locations are quite simplistic. For instance, the PSOne was unable to generate trees as separate models, so forests were merely represented by textured walls. However, the gameplay itself has been improved thanks to the fact that mod uses RCTW engine. Overall, it is an interesting project that allows PC players to experience an entry in the series that was never officially released on the platform.

Medal of Honor: Underground was originally released in the year 2000. The game takes place during World War II, and players assume the role of a woman named Manon Batiste, a secret agent working for the French Resistance.
