Unexpectedly, Rockstar Games revealed the release date of Grand Theft Auto 6. Hold off on popping the champagne just yet, as the anticipated title won't be released on the market this year. Rockstar has decided that the latest installment of the hit series will be released on May 26, 2026.
In a post published on X, Rockstar Games apologizes that the title will launch later than everyone expected. The devs underline, however, that a later release date is necessary to deliver a game that will meet the expectations of players.
Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026.
We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your and your patience as we work to finish the game.

Since the release of the first and so far only trailer for GTA 6, there have been a lot of rumors suggesting that the game will be released this year. On top of that, in February Take-Two Interactive hinted that the release of the sixth installment in the fall is still on track.
