PS5 Overheating With Second SSD? Sony Wants to Improve Cooling
Sony may soon make it possible to install an additional SSD into the PlayStation 5. According to Bloomberg, the new firmware will speed up fan operation due to the possibility of console overheating when a second drive is installed.

If Bloomberg's reports are to be believed, the reason is concerns about the PS5 overheating when a second SSD is connected. That's why the firmware will boost fan speeds to prevent temperature spikes. Unfortunately, a side effect of this could be a louder console.
As of yet, Bloomberg's information has not been officially confirmed. Sony still assures us that it's working on expanding the console's SSD storage, but withholds specific dates. It's hardly surprising, given that the company still has a major problem with PS5's availability, thanks in part to reports suggest the situation won't even improve until the end of this year.
