There's a big debate happening on Reddit about a new US bill called the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act (IODA), introduced on May 8, 2025. People are concerned it could lead to bans on pornographic content (including in video games), which means titles like Cyberpunk 2077 might end up getting blacklisted.

What is the IODA bill?

Game subreddits are normally just for gameplay talk, not politics. But a recent post about a new bill has blown up with tons of upvotes and comments. Since the conversation’s still going strong, the mods haven’t removed it.

The bill, called the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act (IODA), was introduced by Senator Mike Lee. It aims to create a single, nationwide definition of “obscenity,” especially for things shared online. With this change, authorities wouldn’t have to prove someone meant to harm or harass, just that the content fits the new definition. That could put a lot of adult content, even in video games, at risk. People are worried this could lead to censorship and a lot of confusion for developers and creators. The bill’s only been introduced in Congress so far, so it’s not law yet, but it’s definitely causing a stir.

What’s even more important is that this bill is part of Project 2025, a plan put together by the conservative Heritage Foundation back in 2023. It was designed to shape a future Republican istration and help pave the way for Trump’s return to the presidency.

Could Cyberpunk 2077 be banned in US?

The IODA is tied to the social policy goals in Project 2025, including a push to criminalize pornography. But if the definition of “porn” gets too broad, even something like a naked video game character could count – and that could mean games get banned in the US. Yeah, it sounds extreme, but it’s not that far-fetched.

Think about how many games include nudity, not just in adult games, but in regular, mainstream ones too. GTA 6 will probably push that even further. With the way this bill is written, things like that could easily get labeled as porn.

There’ve been anti-porn bills in the past that didn’t make it, but this one feels a bit more likely. Some people think politicians might be scared to vote against it because they don’t want to get slapped with a “pro-porn” label during their next campaign.

As wild as it sounds, this bill could actually and that might mean a lot of video games get banned in the US.

Been with gamepressure.androidapks.biz since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or iring my collection of retro consoles.
