IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. February update for Windows 10 has been released;
  2. Microsoft promises to patch important issues and gap in the system, though some s are reporting problems when trying to install this and previous updates.

Microsoft released the cumulative Windows 10 update that includes the February pack of bug and security fixes. Depending on the currently installed version of the operating system, we will version 19042.804 (for Windows 10 20H2), 19041.804 (for W10 2004) or 18363.1377 (W10 1909).

We can the update directly using Windows Update or by ing the offline installer from the catalog on Microsoft's website. Since this is a smaller package, the developers responsible for the development of Windows 10 have focused on patching bugs instead of adding new features.

Key improvements in the February update for Windows 10

  • Improved switching between apps using ALT TAB;
  • Fixed ESENT bug 642;
  • Fixed unnecessary deactivation of some devices after installing system patches;
  • Fixed problem causing black screen after waking Windows 10 from hibernation;
  • So called zero-day vulnerability in Win32k, which allowed for execution on unrecognized code by using visual interface to control e.g. printers and monitors
  • 56 vulnerabilities in Windows were patched, including three related to the T/IP protocol.

However, before we rush to the pack, we'd like to warn about possible inconveniences that may occur. Windows 10 is notorious for bugs popping up every time new patches are installed.

Two days ago, the optional update KB4598291 was World of Warcraft is one such case).
