Firewatch is one of those games that spawned the genre that's sometimes ironically referred to as "walking simulators." In the case of Campo Santo's production, this is not entirely true, because during these journeys through the forest, we also collect rubbish, climb rock ledges, and sometimes run. However, all these are side activities – the most important thing in Firewatch is an emotional, long-distance relationship with a woman whom the main character has never even seen, and to whom he develops feelings during his lonely journeys.

In a way, a much more tragic story also unfolds next to theirs. Its discovery is optional though – the player may not be interested in it at all and not pursue the topic, be content with the bits of information that will come into their hands automatically, or conversely, focus mainly on the investigation.

For an independent game, the views in Firewatch are beautiful. We ire the forest in a day-and-night cycle. Sunsets are probably the most charming. It's hard to resist the temptation to stay in one place and just let the views sink in. And all this was created in 2016 on Unity, with relatively modest funds raised by industry veterans.
