Kingdom Come 2 Brushes with Death: Painting shields

Painting shields is a new unique feature introduced by the Brushes with Death DLC for Kingdom Come 2. On this guide page, you will find instructions on how to unlock shield painting done by the artist Voyta, whether you have to pay for changing the shield painting, and also whether you can reverse the change done to the shield's appearance and restore its initial painting. We also explain how to acquire new symbols for the shield.

How to unlock the option to paint Henry's shields?

1. You need to complete A Sketchy Situation quest - it's the first DLC quest, which involves saving painter Voyta and retrieving his brushes. We described this quest in detail in our walkthrough.
2. From now on, you can meet Voyta at the Trosky Castle. One of the dialogue options is Paint a shield for me.

1. After completing the quest Portrait in Red, Voyta will move to the Kuttenberg region. From this moment, you can visit him in his workshop in the western part of the city. You will recognize it by the brush icon on the map and the red facade of the building.

1. The shield painting service is free and you can treat it as a thank you from Voyta for saving his life.
2. You can paint all the shields you own, including those that already have a pattern. In such a situation, a completely new paint job will be applied. Choose a shield from Henry's inventory that you want to paint.

1. The main tabs of the shield painting window are Pattern, Colour (I and II), Category, and Symbol. You unlocked the first patterns and colors after completing the quest A Sketchy Situation. In the Symbol tab, you can also decide to have the shield without an additional symbol.

How to restore the shield's previous look?

1. The game offers a preview of the future appearance of the shield in the painting window. Fortunately, despite this, your choices are not final. After painting the shield, you can talk to Voyta again and choose the option to Repaint to original design. Your shield will regain its default appearance.

How to unlock new shield patterns?

1. As you progress through the DLC, you can unlock new symbols, which can then be placed on the shield. You will always find information on how to access them in the top right corner of the screen. Usually, you get them at the end of a quest. Some can only be unlocked if you behaved in a certain way during the quest (e.g. you have recovered the item requested by Voyta).
