When developers saw the incredible success of the first MMORPG in history, Ultima Online, it was only a matter of time before they would react. Sony was the next company to step into this very promising market with their high-budget EverQuest.
While Ultima Online is a representative of the first generation of such games, and Asheron’s Call is definitely the second generation, EverQuest should be qualified as “one and a half”. Having an opportunity to observe the mistakes Ultima Online made, the developers of EverQuest managed to avoid most of them; however, they made their own, for example: lack of balance in character classes and races.
Despite that fact, the game is still very popular and high-level characters can be bought on Internet auctions for sums that exceed 1000 American dollars. It can be shocking, but one must that creating such a character takes months and that is provided that its owner plays a few hours a day, every day. Moreover, the subscription fee is 10 dollars a month.
Just like in any massive multiplayer game, EverQuest offers the opportunity to interact with thousands of other players from all around the world, as well as a huge amount of race/class combinations, while each and every one of them is played differently.

The 23rd expansion pack for EverQuest – a MMORPG game that debuted in 1999. The DLC expansion was developed by Daybreak Game Company and this time the story concentrates on a war that is about to start in Norrath after the Emperor Tsaph Katt reformed the realm. The expansion pack doesn’t introduce any revolutionary changes to the gameplay mechanics – instead, it is based on well-received solutions. The developers created seven new areas to conquer, a set of additional missions, eight new raids and completely new types of enemies and pieces of equipment that can be collected. The developers also decided to introduce the circle of friends, giving each character a fast access to up to ten allies. EverQuest: Empires of Kunark is based on technology created for the basic version of the game and its graphics don’t differ much from the original.
