The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is a thoroughly refreshed version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, an open-world RPG game originally released in 2006 (on PC and Xbox 360, a year later also on PS3), which is the fourth main installment of the cult series. The remaster is the result of a collaboration between Bethesda Game Studios and Virtuos.
Game
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was made available on the PC Game and Xbox Game subscription services at the time of its release.
Gameplay changes
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered introduces a number of changes related to gameplay.
Advancing to higher levels
First and foremost, the developers focused on the mechanics of leveling up and significantly simplified it. The system based on developing the main skills chosen at the beginning of the adventure has been preserved, but it no longer directly affects the increase of attributes. Instead, each time we level up, we receive a certain number of points that we can assign to strength, intelligence, willpower, dexterity, speed, endurance, personality, or luck.
Additionally, the interface was refreshed, making the character card easier to check. For example, progress bars have been introduced, which allow us to continuously track the development of skills while using them.
Sprint and improved TPP camera
In addition to this, our character can not only walk or run, but has also been equipped with the ability to sprint, which facilitates exploration.
In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, the third-person camera (TPP) has also been modernized. It does not show the protagonist in the center of the screen, but moves over their shoulder. Moreover, our character now moves independently of the direction the camera is facing.
Modernized interface
The interface has also been adapted to modern standards. Its layout reminiscent of the UI from The Elder Scrolls Online. Improvements were made to switching between inventory, statistics, map and journal tabs. The mini-game related to using persuasion skills during dialogues was also modernized.
Improvements in graphics and sound design
Unlike the original that used the Creation Engine, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered operates based on Unreal Engine 5 technology. This resulted in a thorough refreshment of the graphic design. Many elements have improved in quality - from textures and 3D models, through dynamic lighting, to weather effects.
Completely new animations were also added. Thanks to this, both walking, running, sneaking, jumping or swimming, as well as waving a weapon, blocking and shooting a bow (the latter has also been improved) look better. The new animations accompanying hitting opponents are also a significant change.
The developers made character faces better. They have become more realistic and better reflect the individual characteristics of each race. The finishing touch to all of this are the new voices of selected NPCs, as well as sounds accompanying combat and world exploration that were not present in the original.
Mods
Unlike the original, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered does not offer official for mods.
Expansions and DLC
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, in addition to the basic version of the game, includes two story expansions, namely Shivering Isles, as well as all minor add-ons.
Plot and gameplay
The developers of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered did not change the story plot or the core gameplay compared to the original. During the game, we enter a fantasy world, specifically - the capital province of the Tamriel Empire, namely Cyrodiil. After the death of the ruler at the hands of assassins, the land struggles with anarchy. To make matters worse, the gates to the titular Oblivion open, from which demonic forces pour out. Our task is to avert the crisis.
The game allows us to create our own character, in whose skin we explore the open world. In addition to the main quests, there are numerous side missions to complete, which we perform both for ordinary neutral characters and for a number of guilds. We engage in dynamic skirmishes with opponents (fighting in close combat, at a distance or using magic), we gather increasingly better equipment and advance to the next levels.

[2:16] The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered - Launch Trailer
PC Gamer: 84 / 100 by Kerry Brunskill
A beautiful remaster of a great game that leaves some very old, obvious issues untouched.
PPE.pl: 6 / 10 by Maciej Zabłocki
The score refers only to the quality of the remaster and technical condition. Oblivion itself is still an outstanding RPG, but the PS5 version needs a lot of patches to start working properly. Well, and it's a shame that there are basically no differences between the edition for the regular PS5 and the PS5 Pro. The quality mode is useless, and the game dumping to the main menu is some kind of unpleasant joke. I will point out, however, that when everything works well, the game plays wonderfully, and the quality of the visuals can sometimes literally “blow you out of your slippers.”
IGN: 8 / 10
