Oblivion Remastered: How to persuade in the remaster?
How to win persuasion attempts in Oblivion Remastered? From this guide page, you will learn the premise of the persuasion mini-game, how to read the interlocutor's reactions, which wedges to choose, how to use bribery and how to facilitate persuasion with the help of Rhetoric.
Last update:
TES IV Oblivion Remastered features a slightly modified version of the persuasion mini-game known from the original Oblivion. Our guide explains how to persuade and how to correctly read the disposition of the NPCs towards your hero. We have described all the key steps, including determining what the other person likes the most, how quadrants and wedges work, and how to make the whole thing easier by with developing Speechcraft and bribing.
This page of the guide applies to the mini-game in Oblivion Remastered. In the original Oblivion, there are no additional colors, plus the quadrant wheel and the general interface look different.

How to start persuading and what is its purpose?
- Oblivion features a persuasion mini-game, which you can use on most of the NPCs you encounter that you can talk to.
- The purpose of persuasion is to improve the NPC's disposition towards your hero. Depending on who you're talking to, you may be able to get better prices from a merchant or persuade the other person to share additional information.
- After talking to the NPC, check the lower left corner of the screen - there should be a persuade button (see the screenshot above).
Before each mini-game, we recommend saving your game. This will protect you from damaging your relationship with an NPC due to a poorly played attempt to persuade them.
How to complete the persuasion mini-game?
- At the beginning, you have 2 choices - you can start the persuasion mini-game or choose to bribe. We have described this second option in more detail at the end of this page.
- The game displays the current disposition of your interlocutor: a number between 0 (worst) and 100 (best). The initial disposition towards your hero is not random. It is influenced primarily by your previous actions, but also by things like your character's race, personality, reputation, and whether they are d with a faction.
The persuasion window consists of several elements:
- The current disposition of the interlocutor is visible in the middle of the screen (1 in the screenshot). Too much inactivity will cause it to gradually decline, so you should hurry up with your next steps.
- There are 4 quadrants on the screen and each one represents a different variant of behavior. These are: ire, Boast, Joke and Coerce (2 in the screenshot). As part of the mini-game, you must choose each of these behaviors exactly once.
- Each quadrant has 1 to 4 wedges (3 in the screenshot). More wedges mean that a given option may have a greater impact on the interlocutor (positive or negative). Once an action is selected, the wedges always move to the next position.

- Each interlocutor reacts differently to your behavior. The possible reactions are: Love, Like, Dislike and Hate.
- Before making a choice, you can check your interlocutor's disposition towards different behavior variants. When a given action is highlighted, the interlocutor may smile more or less (example in screenshot 1) or have a more or less angry face (example in screenshot 2).
- The key to success is to choose variants that the other person likes combined with a large number of wedges (preferably 3 or 4) and variants that the other person dislikes combined with a small number of wedges (1 or 2). The latter are simply treated as the lesser evil because they cannot be avoided entirely.
- If you play it well, the final number of disposition points should be higher (more positive points from positive reactions, less negative points from negative reactions). As a result, the NPC's disposition after completing the minigame will be better than at the start.
- Plan your next steps while keeping in mind that the wedges move clockwise. You can then determine where they will be in their next turns. You must avoid the worst combinations to avoid losing a huge number of points at once.
The Oblivion remaster features an additional convenience that is activated when repeating persuasion attempts with the same NPC.
Behavior variants may have colors that indicate the potential reaction of an NPC without having to read their facial expression:
- Green: Love;
- Yellow: Like;
- Orange: Dislike;
- Red: Hate.
This will help you choose the best responses more quickly and reduce the risk that your disposition will deteriorate due to longer inaction.
How to facilitate persuasion attempts?
The skill most closely related to persuasion is Speechcraft:
- From the Apprentice level (25 points), the interlocutor's disposition decreases more slowly if you remain inactive.
- From the Journeyman level (50 points), you can spin quadrants once for free. This will allow you, for example, to avoid combining a bad NPC reaction with a large number of wedges.
- From Expert level (75 points), bribes are much cheaper.
- At the Master level (100 points), disposition stops decreasing on its own, so there is no need to rush anymore. You can also lose fewer points for the most disliked reactions.
Maximum disposition and bribes
- A persuasion attempt may be unavailable if you have obtained maximum disposition for a given NPC. An example of this situation is shown in the screenshot. In this scenario, your only option is to bribe the NPC, as the game will not let you start the mini-game.
- You can use a bribe to complement the persuasion mini-game or as a replacement of it. The game will tell you exactly how much it costs to bribe an NPC and how many positive disposition points you can receive in return.
- Choosing a bribe is recommended only if you really want to improve your relationship with a particular character, e.g. to improve the prices of an important merchant.
