How to start sprinting in the remaster?
The sprint mechanic was not present in the original release of TES IV Oblivion. The remaster offers it from the very beginning of the game, and you don't need to unlock any additional skills to access it.
You can learn how to activate sprint in the control options. By default, these are:
- L3/LS button (left analog stick) on the controller;
- SHIFT on the keyboard.
Regardless of whether you are playing on a controller or keyboard, you must hold down the sprint button or key while sprinting. Releasing it will end the sprint. The accessibility features in the Oblivion remaster unfortunately don't include enabling and disabling sprint with a single keypress.
What are the limitations of sprinting and how can it be extended?
- Using the sprint option will deplete your green Fatigue bar. It always appears at the bottom of the screen (example in the screenshot).
- Try not to drain your entire Fatigue bar, especially if you are in combat or running away from enemies. Your character may lose strength and become an easy target for enemies. Release the sprint buttons just before the bar is completely empty. Once all or part of your Fatigue has been restored, you can resume sprinting.
The Fatigue bar is linked to 2 character attributes that you should gradually improve:
- Agility - by developing this attribute, you can regenerate your Fatigue bar faster, and also slightly extend it.
- Willpower - by developing this attribute, you can significantly extend the Fatigue bar, i.e. increase the limit of the maximum available Fatigue.
The Athletics skill is also crucial:
- Starting from the Apprentice level (25 skill points), Fatigue regenerates while running.
- From the Journeyman level (50 points), sprinting consumes Fatigue slower.
- From Expert level (75 points), sprinting consumes Fatigue much slower.
- Master level (100 points) will allow you to sprint without restrictions, i.e. without u any Fatigue points.
How to increase movement speed?
- A separate Speed attribute is responsible for the overall movement speed of the protagonist. Its development can improve the speed of walking, running, sprinting and swimming. With sprint enabled, you can move at a faster speed and use less Fatigue to reach the same destination.
In addition to spending points on an attribute, you can also search for potions and spells to increase Speed. Their effects are, of course, time-limited and it is worth taking them in exceptional situations, e.g. when you want to catch up with enemies more easily or escape them.
