How to get Renault's Akaviri Katana?
- You can obtain the katana in question at the beginning of the prologue, shortly after finalizing your first choices in the character creator. Your character will begin their journey through the sewers, following in the footsteps of Emperor Uriel Septim and his guards.
- After you encounter the first assassins, find the dead Captain Renault. Renault's Akaviri Katana is one of the items found on his body.
- The Renault's Katana is the best melee weapon available in the prologue. It is a one-handed blade with higher stats than other weapons that you can loot off bodies in the game world. This makes the katana the optimal choice for playing the Tutorial encounters.
Why do I lose the katana?
- Later in the prologue, there will be another assassin attack and the Emperor will give you the Amulet of Kings. The game will also force you to select a zodiac sign as one of the steps in customizing your character's starting stats.
- A conversation with Baurus will start. During this meeting, the Emperor's guard will notice that you have found Renault's Katana and will take it from you. You cannot react to this in any way while the conversation is going on. Baurus will tell you that Renault's Katana will get an honorary spot in the headquarters of the Blades faction.
- There is no way to get your katana back - you can't kill Baurus and there's no way to pickpocket him either. Neither can you drop or leave the katana somewhere before the scene with Baurus is triggered, because if you do so, the weapon will simply be lost. You have to accept that the only purpose of obtaining the katana was to make the prologue easier.
Alternative Akaviri Katana from the main storyline
- Deal with the main storyline quests and you will eventually unlock the Weynon Priory main quest, where your hero, Jauffre, and Martin must work together to reach the Blades headquarters: the Cloud Ruler Temple.
- Jauffre will offer you to the Blades and if you agree, you will receive a free Akaviri Katana very similar to the one used by Captain Renault. Its stats will be adjusted to the experience level at which you played this main quest.
Also, don't forget to check out the armory at the Blades headquarters. There are other weapons there, as well as armor pieces. You can take any items you find there for free, without the risk of being accused of theft.
